History Profile

The Department of History started functioning from the very inception of the college in 1909. In 1956, the double-main programme was introduced combining the disciplines of History and Economics. Later by 1990, the  Double- Main programme was bifurcated and the B. A History main programme was offered. In the year 1995, the department was upgraded to Post Graduate level and in 2015 the University of Calicut conferred the status of Research Department. The focus area of research is Modern History of Kerala with emphasis on the socio-economic scenario of Malabar under the Madras Presidency. At present, there are six research supervisors in the department
