| About the Department | With Dr.V.G.M.Pavamani as Pricipal,MCC became a first grade college in July 1956.The first degree courses under the Madras Universiy were started in Economics and Mathematics main. The Dept.of Economics functioned under the Head of the Department and first professor of the college Mr. P.K Surendranadh .Prof.P.K .Surendranadth continued as HOD till 1966 . Due to technical problems in the administration of the Dept, single main was substituted with double main in Economics and History. Prof. P.P.Skaria and Prof.Sreedharan were HOD s of the respective departments with four main papers in History and four main Economics papers. Prof. Skaria the head of the Dept of Economics was a prolific writer of books for Economics main and plus two students. He took up the Principalship in 1989-90for a year and after his retirement late Prof.V..Balakrishnan Nair took charge as HOD. The dept.was now declared as single main department in Economics. After a period of almost 3 years Dr. Kesavan took over as HOD. Later Prof.M. Premnadh took over as HOD and continued upto 1999. Stella Grace Oommen was the HOD till 2013. Mr. Biju Mathew and Mrs.B.Bhuvaneswari were HOD s and now Dr. Louis. J. Kattady is he HOD of the department |
